Whenever I hear from Putin's supporters to pressure the West and Ukraine to make peace, I paint myself a story like this: a criminal has attacked a bank with a gun, threatens "Money or death", and bystanders say "we don't want violence, we are against robbery, therefore we demand that the cashier hand over all the cash". Or "the worst that can come out of this is empowering the police" (see Chomsky).

The case of the recent murder of a Ukrainian POW is another example of the difference between "domestic" and "export" discourse in Russia. The official English-language channels put forward the conspiracy theory that it was all a fake and that it was a Russian soldier who was killed, while the Russian-language channels are like "why should we be ashamed of killing a Ukrainian prisoner of war?". https://twitter.com/wartranslated/status/1633027452891979776
